How to Seal Cracks for Home Pest Control

Step 1: Identify Cracks

- First, you must examine your home and look for cracks. Focus on areas where pests are likely to enter, such as doorways, window frames, and the attic.

Step 2: Prepare Caulk

- Obtain caulk that matches the color and material of your home (e.g., white caulk for white walls, paintable caulk for paintable surfaces, etc.). Cut the caulk tube's tip and insert the tube into a caulk gun.

Step 3: Apply Caulk

- Hold the caulk gun at a 45-degree angle to the surface and squeeze the trigger while slowly moving to fill the cracks. Smooth out the caulk with your finger or a caulking tool.

Step 4: Let the Caulk Dry

- Allow the caulk to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. For most caulks, it typically takes 24 to 48 hours to fully cure.

Step 5: Repaint if Necessary

- If you used paintable caulk, wait for it to dry completely, and then repaint the caulked area to ensure a uniform appearance.
