Stovetop Method
1. Place the sauerkraut in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
2. Break up any large pieces with a spoon. Add a small amount of water or sauerkraut brine, about 1/4 cup, to the saucepan. Do not add too much liquid, since sauerkraut contains a lot of water.
3. Stir the sauerkraut continuously to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.
4. Heat the sauerkraut just until it is warm, about 5-7 minutes. Do not overcook the sauerkraut, as this will make it mushy.
5. Remove the sauerkraut from the heat and serve.
Microwave Method
1. Place the sauerkraut in a microwave-safe bowl.
2. Add a small amount of water or sauerkraut brine, about 1/4 cup. Do not add too much liquid, since sauerkraut contains a lot of water.
3. Stir the sauerkraut to distribute the liquid evenly.
4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and microwave on high for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauerkraut is heated through.
5. Remove the sauerkraut from the microwave and serve.
