How to Fix Granite With Cyanoacrylate

Granite is a natural stone that is popular in kitchens and baths due to its high-end look and feel. In addition to its organic beauty, it is durable, scratch-resistant and stain-resistant if properly sealed. Despite its hardness, granite is susceptible to chipping if struck with a heavy object. If you retain the chipped piece, you can repair the granite with a cyanoacrylate adhesive, also known as superglue or instant glue.

Things You'll Need

  • Granite cleaner or acetone
  • Cyanoacrylate glue
  • Protective gloves
  • Razor blade

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the surface of the granite of all dust and grease with the cleaner recommended by your retailer or manufacturer and allow it to dry. Alternatively, you can use acetone to clean the surface.

    • 2

Put on protective gloves. Place a small dab of cyanoacrylate glue on either the chip or the granite surface. Apply just enough to slightly overfill the damaged surface but don't apply it to both chip and surface because too much glue may stain the granite.

    • 3

Press the chip back into place and hold it for a few seconds to activate the glue.

    • 4

Scrape off any excess glue with a thin sharp blade such as a single-edge razor blade. Hold the blade nearly parallel to the granite surface and scrape across it to remove the excess glue. Don't use a cloth or paper towel as this will just smear the glue around the surface.
