How to Secure a Hollow Metal Door Frame to a Concrete Deck

Hollow metal doors use a metal frame that fits around the jambs and header of the door opening. The bottom of each jamb has a piece of angle that acts as a mounting anchor for the bottom of the frame. Before securing a hollow metal door frame to a concrete deck or floor, set the frame square in the rough opening. The best way to anchor the frame in concrete is to use concrete expansion anchors.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the level and square off the metal door frame inside the opening. Place shims under the frame jambs as necessary until the top of the door frame is square with the jambs.

    • 2

Insert a masonry bit into your drill that is the same diameter as the expansion bolt sleeve. Drill through the mounting hole of the jamb anchor bracket into the concrete deck to a depth of 4 inches.

    • 3

Vacuum the hole with a shop vacuum to remove all traces of concrete dust. If there is a gap between the jamb anchor bracket and the surface of the deck, slide flat washers under the bracket to fill the gap. Use flat washers that are two sizes larger than the anchor bolt.

Insert the concrete expansion anchor into the mounting hole and concrete deck. Tap the anchor into the hole with a hammer. Tighten the nut on the top of the anchor with a socket wrench until it is tight. Repeat for the opposite jamb.
