How to Replace a Delta Tub Spout

Step 1: Gather the necessary tools.

You will need:

- Adjustable wrench

- Channel lock pliers

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flat head screwdriver

- Plumber's putty

- Replacement tub spout

Step 2: Turn off the water supply.

Locate the shut-off valves for your tub. These are typically located under the sink or behind the shower. Turn the valves clockwise to shut off the water.

Step 3: Remove the old tub spout.

There are two types of tub spouts: those held in place with a set screw and those held in place with a threaded collar.

1. Set screw type: Use the flathead screwdriver to remove the set screw on the side of the tub spout. Once the set screw is removed, you can use the adjustable wrench to turn the spout counterclockwise and remove it from the wall.

2. Threaded collar type: Use the channel lock pliers to remove the threaded collar on the back of the tub spout. Once the collar is removed, you can pull the spout straight out from the wall.

Step 4: Remove the old plumber's putty.

Use the flathead screwdriver to scrape away the old plumber's putty from around the base of the tub spout.

Step 5: Apply new plumber's putty.

Roll a rope of plumber's putty and apply it around the base of the new tub spout. Make sure to press the putty firmly into place.

Step 6: Install the new tub spout.

Insert the new tub spout into the wall opening and hand-tighten it until it is snug against the wall.

1. Set screw type: Use the Phillips head screwdriver to insert the set screw into the side of the tub spout and tighten it until it is snug.

2. Threaded collar type: Use the channel lock pliers to tighten the threaded collar around the back of the tub spout until it is snug.

Step 7: Turn on the water supply.

Turn the shut-off valves counterclockwise to turn the water back on.

Step 8: Check for leaks.

Look for any leaks around the base of the tub spout. If you see any leaks, tighten the set screw or threaded collar until the leak stops.
