Clean the sub-floor to remove loose debris, grease and dirt to prevent flooring adhesion failure. Apply a latex-based primer over the sub-floor and allow the primer to dry, as recommended by Novalis.
Snap a chalk line onto the sub-floor between the halfway points along two facing walls, so that you have a line on the floor that splits the room in two. Snap a chalk line at a 90-degree angle across the center of the previous chalk line, from wall to wall.
Take off any skirting or baseboards from the bottom of the wall, if you want to conceal the flooring edge. Inspect the back of a Novalis tile to see if you need to follow a marked directional arrow for each tile installation.
Peel and discard the removable backing sheet from the tile. Align the tile corner into a center chalk line corner so that the tile edges align along one of the right angles that the chalk lines create. Push down on the tile to stick the vinyl to the sub-floor.
Install a row of tiles along the chalk line to the wall. Abut each tile to the edge of the previous tile without leaving a gap. Install the next row of tiles along the chalk line that runs perpendicular to the first chalk line. Fill in the sub-floor area between the two perpendicular rows of tiles by working from the center tile and toward each wall in alternate tile placement.
Repeat the installation procedure for each chalk-lined sub-floor section. Use a 100-lb. floor roller to apply uniform pressure over the flooring to ensure effective adhesion, as recommended by Novalis. Fasten your baseboards back onto the wall, if you removed the boards in Step 3.
