How to Get Rid of Hair Dye on Wooden Floors

You can easily use hair dye to color your hair -- and everything else around it. Hair dye can splatter from the hair and end up on your wooden floors and cabinets, giving them the perfect shade you wanted on your hair. You cannot remove hair dye with a simple soap and water mixture -- it takes more elbow grease and ingredients to take the permanent dye out of the wood. Using a few tricks, you can restore the wood back to its original condition and not have to worry about the dye.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix one part vinegar and one part baking soda in a small container to form a paste. Add more baking soda if the consistency is too runny and add more vinegar if the mixture is too dry.

    • 2

Apply the paste with a scrubbing pad or nylon brush on the hair dye stain and allow the paste to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Wipe the stain clean with a damp cloth.

    • 3

Spray the stain with one or two squirts of hair spray to loosen up the hair dye.

    • 4

Scrub the stain with a steel wool cleaning pad if the dye still exists. Use carefully to avoid scrubbing the finish from the wood floor.

    • 5

Use a dry cloth to wipe the soap and hair spray from the flooring and follow up with a damp cloth. Repeat the process until the hair dye fades from the floor completely.
