How to Remove Mold on Concrete Walls With Pressure Washing

Concrete is hard and durable, but this aggregate material is also porous and can support mold growth. Organic matter combined with moisture provides the nutrients and water that mold spores need to germinate and grow within concrete's small crevices. Restore the look of concrete walls and driveways by using a pressure washer. Pressure washing helps to push unsightly and unhealthy mold out of the concrete more thoroughly than washing with a standard garden hose.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub the concrete of surface dirt and debris with a detergent-and-water solution.

    • 2

Allow the cleaning solution to remain on the surface for several minutes to kill the mold.

    • 3

Read and follow the operating instructions for your pressure washer if you are unfamiliar with the unit.

    • 4

Set the pressure to the manufacturer's recommended levels for concrete and masonry. Concrete can withstand higher pressure than softer brick, metal or vinyl surfaces. However, lower the pressure slightly if there are any loose stones in the concrete.

    • 5

Rinse away the cleaning solution and dead mold with the pressure washer. Direct the nozzle at the top of the wall and work down in order to move the mold down and away from the surface.
