Put on gloves because some of the edges on the awning may be sharp. Place your ladder near the awning, but not against it. Make sure your ladder is on firm ground and if available, have someone spot it as you climb and stand on it.
Remove the slats if they are separate pieces. To remove them, slide them up and then out. Hand them to your spotter.
Find one of the two horizontal bars below the awning that run perpendicular to the wall. With your screwdriver, remove the screw that holds the closest one to you to the wall bracket. Move the the other side of the awning and do the same with the other perpendicular bar.
Locate the row of screws that holds the awning to the top of the bracket. Remove each of them with your screwdriver. This will detach the awning from the bracket. Lower it down to the person on the ground.
Unfasten the screws that hold the bracket in place on the wall to remove the bracket. Do this only if you are completely removing the entire awning and replacing it.
