How to Wire With Romex

## Tools Needed

- Romex (NM-B) cable

- Wire strippers

- Pliers

- Screwdriver

- Electrical tape

- Outlet or switch box

- Cable staples

Steps

1. Turn off the power. Before you start working on any electrical project, make sure that the power is turned off to the circuit you will be working on. You can do this by flipping the circuit breaker to the "Off" position.

2. Cut the Romex cable to length. You will need to cut the Romex cable to the length you need to reach from the power source to the outlet or switch box. To do this, use wire strippers to remove about 6 inches of the outer jacket of the cable. Then, use the pliers to cut the individual wires inside the cable to the desired length.

3. Strip the ends of the wires. Once the wires are cut to length, you will need to strip the ends of each wire to expose the copper conductor. To do this, use the wire strippers to remove about 1/2 inch of the insulation from each wire.

4. Connect the wires to the outlet or switch. Next, you will need to connect the wires to the outlet or switch. The black wire should be connected to the hot terminal on the outlet or switch, the white wire should be connected to the neutral terminal, and the green or bare wire should be connected to the ground terminal.

5. Secure the wires with electrical tape. Once the wires are connected, you will need to secure them with electrical tape. This will help to prevent the wires from coming loose and causing a short circuit.

6. Tuck the wires into the outlet or switch box and install the cover plate. Once the wires are secured, you can tuck them into the outlet or switch box and install the cover plate.

7. Turn the power back on. Finally, you can turn the power back on to the circuit and check to make sure that the outlet or switch is working properly.
