Cutting Cedar Wood for Woodworking

Miter Cuts

  Mark the location on the lumber you would like to make the miter cut with a carpenter's square. These work by aligning one side of the square parallel to the wood, and marking a parallel line on the cedar using a pencil and the other side of the square as a guide.

  Lay the lumber in the miter saw so it is tight against the fence. Align the cut line with the miter saw's blade.

  Hold the lumber with one hand while pulling down on the saw's handle with the other. Allow the saw to work naturally through the wood.

Long Rip Cuts

  Adjust the table saw's fence to the diameter you want the wood. This is done by opening the fence's locking mechanism and moving it back and forth until it is the correct distance from the blade, then locking it back in place.

  Guide the wood into the table saw's blade holding it against the fence with one hand while pushing with the other hand. Be cautious to keep both hands well away from the blade when cutting.

  Push the wood through the saw with the push stick once the wood it almost is near its end. This keeps your fingers in position when there is very little wood to hold onto.
