How to Dress Up a Brick Backyard Wall

Brick may be a sturdy and durable choice for wall construction, but it’s not the most eye-catching material. The flat, dark red color of most bricks is bland, and is more functional than it is fashionable. Your backyard should be a haven for your family, and dressing up that boring brick wall will transform it into a personal expression of your creativity.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint over exposed brick to transform the look of your wall. Prime the wall with a brick-specific primer, applying two coats if the first seeps down into the wall. Allow the primer to dry, and coat the wall with a layer of water-resistant brick paint.

Press stick-on wall hangers along the wall, and hang a string of outdoor lights along the hangers. Wrap the string once around each hanger to prevent shifting, and plug the lights into a grounded outlet.

    • 3

Plant ivy at the base of the wall. Ivy is a hearty, fast-growing plant that will climb over exposed brick and coat the wall with old-world country charm.

Erect a number of lawn statues along the bottom of the wall. These cheerful decorations are normally made of concrete or plastic and add a whimsical touch to any yard. Pick statues that coordinate with your home’s existing décor for a flowing, cohesive look.

Decorate your wall with paintings or posters to show off your unique decorating prowess. Slip the pictures into weatherproof outdoor frames, and hang them from large stick-on hangers.
