How to Attach Roman Shades to a Wall

Roman shades cover windows in sleek elegance, providing privacy and light control with the fabric of the shade. As you prepare to install a Roman shade, you have the option of placing it inside the window frame or outside the frame on the surrounding wall. Attach Roman shades to a wall following “outside mount” instructions to dress your window in classic style.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the head rail of the Roman shades about one inch over the window frame and open the shade to extend it completely. Check the fit of the shade after extending it completely while holding the header in place. Hold the level over the head rail to ensure that the head rail is level. After ascertaining that the shade fits properly over the window and that the head rail is level, make small marks on the wall at the left and right corners to indicate the position of the head rail.

    • 2

Place one installation bracket on the wall about one inch to the left of the point where the right edge of the head rail will be. Make marks through the holes in the bracket to indicate where you must drill holes. Repeat the same process on the left edge of the head rail.

    • 3

Drill pilot holes at each mark you drew in the previous step. Place both brackets over the pilot holes and drive the wall anchors through the holes in the brackets into the wall with the screwdriver.

Place the head rail into the brackets and fasten it with the hardware included with the Roman shades. Tighten these wing-nut screws securely to ensure that the head rail stays in place as you raise and lower the Roman shades.
