What to Cover a Round Window With

A round window is a lovely architectural feature that's often difficult to cover. A round window is not easily covered with regular blinds, but options exist that will suit your needs and match your tastes. Even with its unique shape, a round window can be covered in ways that enhance the look of your home.
  1. Curtains

    • While a round window cannot use a regular curtain rod, you may use a long metal or wooden towel rack to mount a curtain across the window. Long curtains hide the round window entirely, giving you the illusion a normal window. A simple valence cuts the round window in half, giving it a more angular look. Use a sheer curtain, whether long or short, to soften the light coming in the round window.

    Window Cling

    • Window clings are thin sheets of plastic that are attached to windows. They cover the window to various degrees of opacity. In some cases, they are colored, creating a stained-glass look. In other cases, they are translucent, creating a look that resembles frosted glass. Window clings, even when they are not designed for round windows, can be cut to fit the curve of your round window by using a pair of heavy scissors. You can cut out elements of the cling that suit the round window, or you can simply trim the cling down to match your window's shape.

    Wood Shutters

    • Wooden shutters may open from the middle to the right and left or from the middle to the top and bottom. These shutters must be custom built for your window. They are an expensive solution, but they offer you a finished look that is made to your specifications. They can be left as natural wood, or they may be stained or painted to match your décor. A wood shutter gives a round window a nautical look, and it provides the window with a permanent cover.

    Fabric

    • Cut segments of fabric that match the panes of your round window, and soak them in liquid starch. Press the fabric to the glass, and smooth it flat with your fingers. Once the starch dries, the fabric is stain resistant and adhered to the glass. This solution allows you to cover the window with colorful fabric that adds life and texture to the room. It is an easy solution to take down, and it can be changed out depending your mood. The biggest advantage is that you can do this on your own, so you don't need to go to specialty stores that charge more. You can cut the circle of fabric yourself, and cover the entire window, or put a border of glass around the fabric covering.
