How to Remove Glue From Plexiglass

Durable and easy to care for, Plexiglas takes the place of glass in residential and commercial structures as well as in bookcases, cabinets and displays. Like glass, this material is susceptible to dust, dirt and grime buildup. Plexiglas also scratches easily if you are trying to clean it with a scraper or other sharp tool. When removing glue and residue from Plexiglas, use a solvent that will not cloud or damage the material.

Instructions

  1. Removing The Glue

    • 1

Wipe the Plexiglas surface with a lint-free, nonabrasive cloth to remove any loose dust and dirt from the material.

    • 2

Apply ½ tablespoon of an adhesive solvent or isopropyl alcohol to the lint-free, nonabrasive cloth.

    • 3

Blot the glue spot on the Plexiglas with the solvent-soaked or alcohol-soaked cloth. Let the solvent or alcohol sit on the glue spot for one minute.

    • 4

Scrape the glue from the Plexiglas with your fingernail or by rubbing the glue with your finger until it rolls off the Plexiglas.

    • 5

Reapply ½ teaspoon of adhesive solvent or isopropyl alcohol to the cloth or rag. Wipe the Plexiglas with the soaked cloth to remove any glue residue.

    Cleaning The Plexiglas

    • 6

Fill a bucket or pot with ½ tablespoon of dish detergent and ½ gallon of lukewarm water.

    • 7

Dip a clean lint-free cloth into the soapy water. Wring out excess water.

    • 8

Wipe the Plexiglas clean with the soapy cloth.

    • 9

Rinse out the cloth with lukewarm water from a sink. Wipe the Plexiglas again to remove any soap from the material's surface.

    • 10

Dry the Plexiglas with a clean cloth or chamois.
