Cut out three strips of cotton fabric that each measure 4 inches wide and12 feet long. Clip the three strips together at one end using a clothespin.
Braid the cotton strips together along the entire length. Clamp a second clothespin onto the end of the braid to secure the braid in place.
Place the braid onto the floor, and wrap the braid into a tight spiral, or coil. Secure the coil in place using straight pins inserted in between each round of the coil.
Take the clothespin off of the end positioned in the center of the coil, and tuck the loose end underneath the coil.
Sew around the coil using quilting thread, beginning in the center and sewing along each round of the coil until you reach the outside. Remove the straight pins.
Tuck the end of the braid that is positioned on the outside underneath the coiled rug, and sew the end in place. Turn over the coiled rug, and sew the end of the braid that is positioned in the center of the coil onto the underside of the rug.
Trim off any excess quilting thread before using the cotton coiled rug.
