Measure the height of the room where the chandelier will be installed. In general, you should allow approximately 3 inches per foot. For example, if the room is 10 feet tall, the light fixture should be not more than 30 inches in height.
Add 1 to 2 inches to the height measurement if the room has unusually high ceilings. Additionally, the chandelier should not hang lower than seven feet from the floor.
Add the dimensions of the room to determine the width of the chandelier. For example, in a 10-by-12-foot room, the chandelier should not be wider than 22 inches in diameter.
Hang a dining room chandelier about 30 inches above and centered over the dining room table. If the table is unusually long, consider installing two smaller chandeliers.
