Lounge Ceiling Lighting Ideas

Don't underestimate the importance of lighting in your lounge decoration scheme. A mediocre arrangement can be vastly improved by creative lighting, just as a beautiful room can be compromised by poorly thought-out lighting. Ceiling lighting is the best way to create ambient illumination as a background for the more focused lighting from lamps and sconces.
  1. Recessed Lighting

    • Recessed lighting is usually installed in the form of pot lights that are set into the ceiling. These lights can be directed to particular areas of the room or set to cast a more general illumination. The type of bulbs that you use in pot lights will have a major effect on the room. You can choose between low-wattage, soft lighting and more focused and intense high-wattage bulbs. The higher your ceiling is, the more powerful bulbs you are likely to need to achieve the effect you're looking for.

    Chandelier

    • Chandeliers exist in a wide range of styles, from classically ornate to modernist and minimalist. Large chandeliers are only appropriate for rooms with ceilings of 10 feet or more in height. A large chandelier hung from a ceiling under 10 feet is bound to make the room look crowded. In most rooms, a single chandelier should be hung at the center of the room. In very large rooms, you may want to accent one area of the room by installing a chandelier in that section.

    Track Lighting

    • Track lighting is most frequently seen in art galleries and other commercial venues where the owners want to draw attention to certain areas. You can use track lighting on your own ceiling if you're interested in creating a range of interesting visual effects, or if you have an art collection and want to maximize its beauty. A series of track lights mounted on the ceiling can be attached to different wall switches, giving you the choice of using any or all of them depending on the situation.

    Skylights

    • Reduce your electricity bills and bring natural sunlight into your home by installing skylights in your ceiling. For daytime use, no artificial lights can match the sun for beauty and effectiveness of illumination. A single skylight in a small room or a row of skylights in a large room can make the room seem brighter, cheerier and more inviting. Installing skylights that can be opened allows you to bring in fresh air as well as sunlight during warm weather.
