How to Tie-Dye a Star

## Tie-Dye Star

##Materials:

* White cotton t-shirt or other fabric

* Fabric dye in various colors

* Rubber bands

* Pinking shears

* Scissors

* Gloves

* Plastic bags

##Instructions:

1. Prepare your fabric. Wash and dry the fabric before you begin. If the fabric is new, you may also want to pre-treat it with a fabric softener to help the dye adhere better.

2. Create a star shape. Use the pinking shears to cut out a star shape from the fabric. The star can be any size you want, but it should be at least 6 inches wide.

3. Tie the fabric. Use the rubber bands to tie the star shape into a tight bundle. You can tie the star in any way you want, but make sure that it is tight enough so that the dye won't bleed through.

4. Prepare the dye. Follow the instructions on the package to prepare the dye. Typically, you will need to mix the dye with water and then heat it until it is dissolved.

5. Apply the dye. Put on your gloves and plastic bags to protect your hands and clothing from the dye. Using a spoon or baster, apply the dye to the star shape, starting at the center and working your way out. Be sure to cover all of the fabric, including the edges.

6. Let the dye set. Allow the dye to set for at least 30 minutes, or longer if desired. The longer you let the dye set, the more vibrant the colors will be.

7. Rinse the fabric. Rinse the star shape thoroughly in cold water until the water runs clear.

8. Dry the fabric. Hang the star shape to dry, or dry it on a low heat setting in the dryer.

9. Enjoy your new tie-dye star!
