Ideas for Creating November Displays

November brings brightly colored leaves, colorful blooming mums and farmers' markets filled with pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn. These seasonal items make decorating inside and outside your house fun and easy to do. November decorating projects will add beautiful warm colors and seasonal charm to your home.
  1. Front Door

    • Your front door is the focal point of your house and it looks inviting to decorate it according to the season. A grapevine wreath embellished with autumn leaves is easy to make. The grapevine wreath form is available at your craft store. Simply hot-glue the leaves in a pleasing pattern and add small gourds and acorns. Add a bow made with raffia and hang it on your door. Another option is to cut a basket in half and hot-glue a cardboard backing to it. Hot-glue some moss to the rim and fill it with fall leaves and bright gourds. Add a burlap or raffia bow to the handle and display it on your door.

    Front Porch

    • The front porch can be treated as a small room. Place a small rustic table with a chair near the door. Cluster a pumpkin and gourds on the table. Lay colored leaves around them. Line a wicker basket with moss and fill it with pinecones and acorns. Set the basket on the chair. Put tall seed pods in a rusted milk can or a ceramic crock and position it beside the chair. An alternative to this setting is to purchase a bale of straw and arrange these items on and around the straw. Add a pot of mums on the floor. A small scarecrow can be added to greet your guests.

    Mantel

    • A decorated mantel will bring the autumn season indoors. Cover the mantel with brightly colored leaves. Arrange a grouping of a small pumpkin with several gourds on one end of the mantel. Scatter pinecones over the leaves. Add a raffia bow to a pot of mums and place it on the other end of the mantel. Add some orange or deep red glass votive candleholders throughout the display. Battery-powered tea lights are safe to use among the dried leaves. Faux leaves can be purchased at craft stores if you prefer them.

    Dining Table

    • To make an easy display for the dining table, purchase an open-ended wicker basket that has a handle. Hot-glue moss to line the inside of the basket. Lay twigs with colored leaves on top of the moss. Lay them in both directions so the ends of the twigs overlap in the center of the basket. Add ears of Indian corn. Pull the husks up to expose the colorful corn. Arrange small pumpkins and different colored gourds with the corn. Add pinecones and acorns if desired.
