How to Cut Plywood for Bed Foundations

A bed foundation is little more than a large board or other flat surface that sits under your bed between the mattress and the frame. The point of a bed foundation it to provide additional support for the mattress and its occupant. Bed foundations range in quality from expensive plastic pieces to homemade plywood panels.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the bedframe and note the measurements.

    • 2

Mark out the measurements on the plywood. The cuts will be made along these lines. The marks should start at the edge of the plywood to ensure ease of cutting. You should typically use 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch plywood to ensure greater stability.

    • 3

Place the plywood sheet on either a table saw or a set of saw horses -- depending on the type of power saw you are using -- and line up the saw blade with the marks you made.

    • 4

Ensure that all extraneous body parts and any loose flaps of clothing or strands of hair are well out of the way of the saw blade. Turn on the saw.

    • 5

Guide the saw into the plywood, following the marked out cut lines as you go. Do not stop cutting when you reach the end of one line; instead, keep cutting forward until you've cut all the way through the plywood. Turn off the saw and reposition the plywood so the saw blade lines up with the next cut line.

    • 6

Continue cutting the plywood until you have cut out the piece needed for the bed foundation.
