Instructions

    • 1

When privacy is not a priority, use furniture to divide a room. Group together furniture pieces, such as couches, chairs or tables, according to color or style. Separate one area from another with an area rug or lighting accents.

    • 2

Arrange a row of tall, live or artificial plants to divide a space; it creates a welcoming garden atmosphere. Use different plant stands or containers such as ceramic, wood or fiberglass for added interest.

    • 3

Align a row of bookshelves between the areas that need to be divided. Add plants or display a collection of pottery on top for a decorative accent that can be viewed from either side of the room.

    • 4

Place one or more folding screens in the area as a temporary divider. Use screens for maximum flexibility. Align them in a straight line or create an L-shape according to your needs and to suit your space.

    • 5

Separate a room with a ceiling curtain to physically divide a space and to add color and texture with the fabric selection. Extend the curtain when separation is needed and pull it back when it is not.
