How to Decorate With a Lavender Sofa

Lavender is a very adaptable color that can be combined with a wide range of other colors to create different atmospheres, from light spring decor to bold and funky or dark and dramatic. Whether you are stuck with a hand-me-down or you simply chose lavender because you like it, there are several ways to create a look that's right for you.

Instructions

  1. Fresh and Breezy

    • 1

Use either light wood flooring or a natural fiber carpet such as seagrass, sisal, jute or hemp. These carpets are ecologically friendly and very hard wearing, and the natural look will complement the light, breezy, fresh feel of the room.

    • 2

Paint skirting boards, woodwork and doors white for a really clean look. Paint wood furniture white, or combine painted pieces with light wood pieces such as pine.

    • 3

Paint the walls with a slightly lighter shade of lavender than that of the couch. Alternatively, split the walls into upper and lower sections with a dado rail at chair height, and use a slightly darker shade on the lower half.

    • 4

Accessorize with colors such as pink, purple, yellow, heather, blue and green. Choose very soft, dusky, light tones to create a real spring vibe in the room. Cushions, throws, floor rugs, wall art, candles, centerpieces and tabletop accessories all offer opportunities to introduce these colors. Look out for floral and nature-inspired patterns, and display plenty of fresh flowers and potted plants.

    • 5

Add one deep purple cushion to the lavender sofa to add depth to the color scheme. Ensure that any other seating in the room has lavender cushions and throws added to tie all the furniture together.

    Cozy and Bold

    • 6

Use a color palette of lavender, purples, oranges, pinks and yellows to create a bright, fun, welcoming room with a slightly Moroccan vibe. Keep the walls neutral with a very light gray, pink or lavender.

    • 7

Add warm terracotta tiles for an authentic Moroccan floor, or keep it simple and clean with wood flooring or a neutral carpet. Combine lavender, purple and bold orange floor rugs on a tile or wood floor.

    • 8

Pile cushions and throws onto the lavender sofa, making use of the entire color palette. Ensure that any other seating has touches of lavender added to it in the form of cushions to tie the color scheme together.

    • 9

Hang vibrant tapestries on the wall for visual interest and to add texture. Combine these with artwork featuring lavenders and purples, and complete the look with Moroccan lamps and lilac and purple candles.
