How to Prepare Easter Eggs for Decorating

Prepare the eggs for decorating. Use hard-boiled eggs or hollow plastic eggs. For real eggs, gently tap each one on a hard surface to crack shells all over (this will help the dye seep into the cracks and create a speckled effect).

Color the eggs. You can use food coloring, natural dyes (like beet juice or turmeric), or egg dye kits. To use food coloring, add a few drops of food coloring to a bowl of water. Dip the eggs into the water and let them sit for a few minutes, or until they reach the desired color. For natural dyes, boil the dyes in water for a few minutes, then add the eggs and let them sit until they reach the desired color. For egg dye kits, follow the instructions on the package.

Dry the eggs. Place the eggs on a wire rack or paper towels to dry completely.

Decorate the eggs. You can use markers, paint, glitter, or stickers to decorate the eggs. Be creative and have fun!

Tips:

* If you want to create a speckled effect, use a toothbrush to flick paint onto the eggs.

* To make the eggs shine, brush them with a little vegetable oil.

* If you want to display the eggs, you can place them in an egg carton or on a decorative plate.
