How to Make Asymmetrical Floral Arrangements

Asymmetrical floral arrangements are uneven shapes, often “L” or crescent, with a gentle curve. The flowers are usually arranged so the one side of the bouquet is tall and thin while the other side is short and thick. Most asymmetrical floral arrangements tend to be small and positioned low to the ground. However, the size of the vase and arrangement doesn’t truly matter, as long as you position the flowers properly. This elegant asymmetrical floral arrangement requires some fuchsia silk bougainvilleas with flexible wire stems and a solid-colored bowl at least 5-inches wide.

  • Wide bowl, 6-inches tall
  • Floral foam

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the floral foam 4-inches thick and into a shape that fits against the bottom of the bowl. Glue the foam to the bottom of the bowl. Let dry.

    • 2

Take a long branch of silk bougaunvilleas, about 2-feet long, and stick the bottom into the middle of the foam so the branch leans high and to the left. Curve the branch slightly so it creates an arc with the top slanting slightly right. This is the long and thin side of the asymmetrical floral arrangement.

    • 3

Cut a short branch of silk bougaunvilleas, about 10-inches long, and stick the bottom into the middle of the foam so that the branch leans low to the vase and to the right. Curve the branch slightly so it creates an upward arc with the top slanting slightly left. This is the short and thick side of the asymmetrical floral arrangement.

    • 4

Add a few white and pink roses in the center of the asymmetrical floral arrangement. Keep the roses short, rising just a few inches above the bowl rim to help create a crescent shape.

    • 5

Add different lengths of faux ivy as filler to the asymmetrical floral arrangement. Fill the general body of the crescent shape and let a few pieces of ivy spill over the sides of the bowl. Make sure to add enough ivy that the styrofoam base is not visible. Add a few extra roses as needed to create a balanced, sweeping, crescent shape.

Cut a single silk bougainvillea from the branch, keeping the stem as long as possible. Place the flower securely among the ivy so the fuchsia color peeks out from behind the green leaves. Add a few more single flowers as needed to spread the fuchsia evenly throughout the asymmetrical floral arrangement.
