How to Make a Wall Seem Textured

Walls painted using flat, matte paint may appear boring. Make your walls more dynamic by applying a faux finish to make the walls look textured. Instead of actually adding plaster or spackling paste onto the entire wall, which can be costly, apply different shades of wall paint in a particular way to give the illusion of texture. Applying faux finish textured walls is an inexpensive way to create more elegant and decorative walls without.,

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bottom of a paint tray with a medium to dark shade of latex wall paint. Select any color of wall paint you prefer.

    • 2

Coat the end of a 3-inch flat paintbrush in the wall paint, then apply the paint onto the corners and top and bottom edges of the wall.

    • 3

Coat a paint roller in the wall paint, then apply the paint over the entire surface of the wall. Allow the paint to dry for eight to 10 hours.

    • 4

Fill a second paint tray with a light shade of the same color of latex wall paint.

    • 5

Coat a large round sponge in the paint, then tap the paint over the entire wall. Do not fill in all of the empty spaces. Leave speckles of darker paint showing through the lighter paint, which makes the wall appear textured and dimensional. Allow the paint to dry for an additional eight to 10 hours.
