How to Paint Black Glaze on Kitchen Cabinets

Remove the cabinet doors and drawers. Unscrew cabinet hardware and set it aside.

Clean the cabinets with a mild detergent in clean water, and rinse well with a damp rag. Dry thoroughly, and lay down drop cloths or newspapers around your work area.

Mix your black paint and glazing medium in a paint tray. For a medium glaze, use one part paint to one part glazing medium. You can add more paint for a darker glaze, less if you want just a hint of black. Mix it thoroughly with a paint stick or old spoon.

Dip your rag in the glazing mixture, wetting but not soaking it. Rub the glaze mix onto the cabinet, starting with the frame. Work your rag in small circles around grooved areas, in straight strokes along flat sections.

Wipe away the glaze with a clean rag, letting the glaze soak in for only one to two minutes. Work in small sections, applying glaze with your paint rag, then wiping it away with a clean, dry rag.

Continue in this manner until the cabinet frame is complete, then apply glaze to the cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Rub in the glaze, then quickly wipe it away until all cabinet surfaces have been glazed.

Let the glaze dry overnight. Return the drawers to their proper spots, and rehang the cabinet doors. Replacing the cabinet hardware with aged-looking knobs, hinges and drawer pulls will add to the beauty of your kitchen.
