How to Decorate a Bedroom With a River Rock Headboard

A river-rock headboard may give a bedroom a natural appeal. Decorating a bedroom that has this type of headboard does not have to be a challenge. River rock comes from many water sources, so the rocks can be large or small. Some headboards are crafted with natural river rock and others contain rocks that have been polished to a glossy sheen. This headboard works well with country and Southwestern decor.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a bedspread in warm earth tones to complement the river-rock headboard. Sage green, apricot, rustic reds, warm golds and shades of brown work well for this type of bedroom.

    • 2

Hang heavy draperies that are the same fabric as the bedding or use a solid, complementary color. Avoid light, airy fabrics such as lace, eyelet or sheer curtains. This style of headboard requires sturdier fabrics to balance the natural look of the headboard.

    • 3

Pick wall art that complements the fabrics in the room. If the bedding is in a Southwest style, hang pictures of adobe structures, cacti or other earth-toned pictures. In country-style bedrooms, hang pictures of outdoor scenes or animals.

    • 4

Utilize a bear-skin rug or one with an Aztec, Southwest or country print.

    • 5

Display sculptures or pottery around the room to enhance the natural look if it is in a Southwest style. Rattan baskets or wooden bowls are appropriate for a country-style bedroom.

    • 6

Select a lamp with a wood or bronze base. Add a lampshade in a color that coordinates with the fabrics in the bedroom or one with a print that complements the style.
