How to Make a Scalloped Edge on a Quilt Using Facing

If you have a plain quilt you would like to dress up, embellish it with iron-on scalloped facing. You can purchase this fabric embellishment at your local sewing notions store. Iron-on scalloped facing looks a lot like narrow ribbon. It has an adhesive backing that melts into the quilt face and adheres securely to the surface with heat from an iron.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread the quilt across a flat work surface, such as a kitchen table or sewing table.

    • 2

Plug your iron into a power outlet. Allow it to warm up for several minutes.

    • 3

Unroll the scalloped facing from the roll or cardboard packaging.

    • 4

Place the scalloped facing with the adhesive backing face down on the quilt.

    • 5

Press the iron on top of the facing ribbon, holding the iron in place for five seconds, then moving it down the length of the facing. Do not hold the iron on the facing too long, or it will lose its stickiness.

    • 6

Cut away excess scalloped facing when you get to the end of the quilt.
