How to Decorate a Table Like Charlotte's Web

Using the characters of the classic children's tale "Charlotte's Web" is an enchanting way to decorate a table for a children's party, a book club function or other enjoyable events. Choosing appropriate dinnerware, a centerpiece and tablecloth is uncomplicated if you use the animal characters the plot focuses on in the story. Because the tale is set mainly in a barn, a country-style decor helps recreate the scenes in the storybook.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a tablecloth in a rustic red, dark tan, a green or brown shade to enhance the barnyard scenes in the book.

    • 2

Roll up cloth or paper napkins in a shade that complements the tablecloth, such as a dark green or tan. Cut a piece of raffia ribbon with scissors and tie it around each napkin. Stick a couple of straw sheaths underneath the raffia to reflect the barnyard atmosphere.

    • 3

Fill the bottom section of a cornucopia with straw or raffia ribbon to represent hay. Another option is to gently wad up tan or yellow tissue paper to form a bed for the farm animals. Add small plastic or rubber farm animals on top of the bed. Some animals represented in the storybook are a pig, rat, geese, cows, horses and sheep.

    • 4

Pick paper plates that feature a spider's web, a barnyard scene with various animals or a pig. Charlotte the spider and Wilbur the pig are two of the main characters in the book. Solid colored plates in earth tones are another option.

    • 5

Suspend a plastic spider from the ceiling by tying it onto a piece of fishing line you cut with scissors. Do this so it hangs 2 or 3 feet from the center of the table. This represents the friendly spider in the book.

Write the guests name on a small cowbell with a permanent marker. Place it at the top edge of each plate. This lets the guests know where to sit and is an inexpensive trinket they can take with them as a party favor.
