How to Make a Fabric Windsock

### Materials

* Fabric (Any kind, but lightweight fabric such as cotton or chiffon will work best.)

* String or ribbon

* Scissors

* Thimble

* Needle

* Thread

* Measuring tape

Instructions

1. Cut the fabric into a rectangle. The size of the rectangle will determine the size of the windsock. A good starting point is 12 inches x 18 inches.

2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise with the right sides together.

3. Sew the two long edges together. Use a ½-inch seam allowance.

4. Trim the corners.

5. Turn the fabric right side out.

6. Insert the string or ribbon into the top of the windsock. Leave a few inches of string or ribbon at the top for hanging.

7. Sew the top of the windsock closed.

8. Decorate the windsock as desired. You can add paint, glitter, or other embellishments.

Tips

* To make a longer windsock, simply cut the fabric into a longer rectangle.

* To make a wider windsock, simply cut the fabric into a wider rectangle.

* If you don't have a sewing machine, you can also hand-sew the windsock.
