### Materials:

- Cardboard boxes

-Scissors

-Tape

-Glue

-String or yarn

-Paint (optional)

Instructions

1. Cut out the pieces for the train.

To make a basic box train, you will need:

- 1 large cardboard box for the engine

- 3 smaller cardboard boxes for the cars

- 2 long strips of cardboard for the sides of the train

- 4 shorter strips of cardboard for the ends of the train

2. Assemble the engine.

Begin by cutting off the top flaps of the large cardboard box. Then, cut out two holes in the front of the box for the headlights and one hole in the back of the box for the smokestack.

Next, glue or tape the long strips of cardboard to the sides of the engine.

Finally, glue or tape the shorter strips of cardboard to the ends of the engine.

3. Attach the cars to the engine.

Cut off the top flaps of the three smaller cardboard boxes.

Glue or tape the cars to the engine, one behind the other.

4. Add details to the train.

Here are a few ideas for adding details to your train:

- You can use paint to add details to the front of the engine and to the sides of the train.

- Add wheels to the train by gluing or taping round objects like bottle caps or paper towel rolls to the bottom of the train.

- Attach string or yarn to the train to make it look like it is moving.

- Add windows, doorways, and other details to your train using construction paper or felt.

Now you have made a cardboard box train. Enjoy playing!
