How to Make a Homemade Davy Crockett Costume

## Materials:

* Brown felt

* White felt

* Red felt

* Yellow felt

* Black felt

* Tan felt

* Craft glue

* Scissors

* Measuring tape

* Sewing machine (optional)

Instructions:

1. Measure the person who will be wearing the costume. You will need to know their height, chest circumference, and waist circumference.

2. Cut out the following pieces of felt:

* Body: 2 rectangles that are 36 inches wide by the height of the person

* Sleeves: 2 rectangles that are 18 inches wide by 24 inches long

* Cuffs: 4 rectangles that are 6 inches wide by 12 inches long

* Collar: 1 rectangle that is 18 inches wide by 6 inches long

* Hat brim: 1 rectangle that is 18 inches wide by 12 inches long

* Hat crown: 1 circle that is 18 inches in diameter

* Racoon tail: 1 rectangle that is 6 inches wide by 18 inches long

3. Sew the body pieces together. Sew the two rectangles of body felt together along one long edge, then fold the body piece in half lengthwise and sew the two short edges together.

4. Sew the sleeves together. Sew the two rectangles of sleeve felt together along one long edge, then fold the sleeves in half lengthwise and sew the two short edges together.

5. Sew the cuffs together. Sew the two rectangles of cuff felt together along one long edge, then fold the cuffs in half lengthwise and sew the two short edges together.

6. Sew the collar together. Fold the rectangle of collar felt in half lengthwise and sew the two short edges together.

7. Sew the hat brim together. Sew the two rectangles of hat brim felt together along one long edge, then fold the hat brim in half lengthwise and sew the two short edges together.

8. Sew the hat crown together. Sew the circle of hat crown felt together around the edge.

9. Attach the sleeves to the body. Sew the sleeves to the body at the shoulder seams.

10. Attach the cuffs to the sleeves. Sew the cuffs to the sleeves at the wrist seams.

11. Attach the collar to the neck. Sew the collar to the neck opening of the body.

12. Decorate the costume. Cut out shapes from different colors of felt and glue them onto the costume. For example, you could add stars, stripes, and a raccoon tail.

13. Add any finishing touches. You could add a wig, beard, and boots to complete the Davy Crockett costume.

Tips:

* If you don't have a sewing machine, you can also hand-sew the costume.

* If you want the costume to be more durable, you can use a heavier weight felt.
