You will need:
• Fabric (such as cotton, canvas, or heat-resistant fabric)
• Thread
• A sewing machine or needle and thread
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Pins
• Iron (optional)
Wrap the measuring tape around the skillet handle, making sure to include the width of the handle and the seam allowance. Add 1 inch to this measurement for the total length of the handle cover.
Cut a rectangle of fabric that is the total length of the handle cover by 4 inches wide.
Fold the fabric in half lengthwise with the wrong sides together. Sew a 1/4-inch seam down the long edge, leaving the short ends open.
Carefully turn the fabric right side out, using a point turner or other blunt object to help push out the corners. Press flat with an iron if desired.
Fold the top and bottom edges of the handle cover 1/4 inch towards the wrong side and press. Fold them over again 1/4 inch and press. Stitch the hems in place.
If desired, you can add a hanging loop to the handle cover. Cut a piece of fabric that is 4 inches long by 1 inch wide. Fold it in half lengthwise and sew a 1/4-inch seam down the long edge, leaving one short edge open. Turn it right side out and press flat. Sew the hanging loop to the top center of the handle cover.
Slip the handle cover over the skillet handle, making sure that the seam is facing the inside of the handle. This is done by simply slipping the cover over the handle and adjusting it so that it is centered.
This simple and effective heat protection will help keep your hands safe while cooking and will add a touch of style to your kitchen.
