How to Make No-Sew Roman Shades

DIY roman shades are a lovely and practical way to add a touch of personalization and elegance to your home.

Materials

* Fabric of your choice (amount depends on the size of your windows)

Instructions

Step 1: Measure your windows

- Measure the width and height of your window(s).

- Add 4 inches to the width measurement for seam allowances.

- Add 6 inches to the height measurement for seam allowances and hems.

Step 2: Cut your fabric

- Cut your fabric according to the measurements you took in step 1.

- If you're using a lining fabric, cut a piece the same size as your main fabric piece.

Step 3: Hem the edges of your fabric (optional)

- If desired, you can hem the edges of your fabric using hem tape or iron-on hem adhesive.

Step 4: Attach the fabric tape to the back of your fabric

- Cut the fabric tape to the same length as the width of your fabric.

- Center the fabric tape on the back of your fabric, and then press it in place.

Step 5: Insert the dowels into the hem

- Cut the dowels to the same length as the width of your fabric.

- Insert the dowels into the hems at the top and bottom of your fabric.

Step 6: Sew the dowels in place

- Sew a few lines of stitches through the fabric and dowels to secure them in place.

Step 7: Attach the mounting brackets to the wall

- Position the mounting brackets at the desired height above your windows.

- Mark the locations of the screw holes, then drill holes and insert the screws.

- Secure the mounting brackets to the wall.

Step 8: Attach the shades to the mounting brackets

- Slide the dowels of your shades into the mounting brackets.

Step 9: Install cleats or hooks

- Install the cleats or hooks on the wall, spacing them evenly across the window.

Step 10: Attach the cord or rope to the cleats or hooks

- Cut the cord or rope to the desired length.

- Attach the ends of the cord or rope to the cleats or hooks.

Tips

* When selecting fabric for your Roman shades, choose a lightweight fabric that drapes well.
