How to Make a Katara Costume

## How to Make a Katara Costume

Katara is a waterbending master from the Southern Water Tribe in the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Her costume is relatively easy to make, and can be customized to your own preferences.

Materials:

- Blue fabric (chiffon or other sheer fabric works best)

- White fabric (for the trim)

- Faux fur (for the collar)

- Ribbon or bias tape (for the trim)

- Beads or other embellishments (optional)

- Sewing machine or needle and thread

- Scissors

- Measuring tape

- Pins

Instructions:

1. Measure yourself to determine how much fabric you need. The skirt should be about twice your hip measurement in width, and long enough to reach your desired length. The top should be about your chest measurement in width, and long enough to cover your torso.

2. Cut out the fabric pieces. You will need two rectangles of blue fabric for the skirt, two rectangles of white fabric for the trim, and one piece of faux fur for the collar.

3. Sew the white trim to the bottom of the skirt pieces, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Fold the trim under 1/4 inch and press.

4. Sew the skirt pieces together along the side seams, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

5. Gather the top of the skirt by pulling evenly on the bobbin thread. Adjust the gathers until the skirt is about the same width as your waist.

6. Fold the top of the skirt down 1 inch and press. Stitch in place.

7. Sew the ribbon or bias tape around the top of the skirt, covering the seam.

8. Fold the collar in half lengthwise and sew the short edges together, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

9. Turn the collar right side out and press.

10. Sew the collar to the neckline of the top, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

11. Add any desired embellishments, such as beads or sequins.

Your Katara costume is now complete!
