- Fabric:
- 1/2 yard of gray felt
- 1/4 yard of white felt
- 1/4 yard of black felt
- 1/4 yard of brown felt
- Other Supplies:
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- Scissors
- Fabric marker
- Measuring tape
- Pins
- Polyester filling
1. Cut out the pattern pieces:
- To make the gray felt koala body, cut out the following pieces:
- 2 large koala body pieces
- 2 small koala body pieces
- 2 koala heads
- To make the white felt belly, cut out the following pieces:
- 2 large round pieces
- 2 small round pieces
- To make the black felt ears, cut out the following pieces:
- 4 large ear pieces
- 4 small ear pieces
- To make the brown felt nose, cut out 1 small oval piece.
2. Sew the koala body together.
- Pin the two large body pieces together along the front, right sides facing, and sew them together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
- Repeat this step to sew the two small body pieces together.
- Turn both pieces right side out and gently press them flat.
- Pin the large and small body pieces together along the center, right sides facing, and match up the side seams.
- Stitch them together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
3. Sew on the belly.
- Pin the large white belly pieces to the front of the koala body, making sure that the round edges are aligned with the bottom of the body.
- Stitch the belly pieces in place using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
- Repeat this step to sew on the small white belly pieces to the back of the koala body.
4. Sew on the ears.
- Pin the four large ear pieces to the two large koala body pieces, and ensure the ear is pointing up.
- Stitch the ears in place using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
- Repeat this step to sew the small ears to the small body pieces.
5. Sew on the nose.
- Pin the brown felt nose to the center of the koala's face, and secure it in place with a few stitches.
6. Stuff the koala body with polyester filling.
7. Hand-sew the opening closed.
8. Add any desired embellishments, such as buttons or ribbons, to the koala costume.
Your homemade koala costume is now complete!
