Materials Needed:
1. Fabric of your choice (choose a fabric that complements your wedding colors and theme)
2. Scissors or rotary cutter
3. Measuring tape
4. Sewing machine or hand sewing needle and thread
5. Safety pins
6. Zip ties or floral wire
Instructions:
1. Cut the Fabric:
a. Determine the length of the pew bows you want to make. A standard length is around 2 yards, but you can adjust it based on the size of your pews.
b. Cut the fabric into strips. The width of the strips will depend on your preference and the size of your pews. A strip width of 4-6 inches is common.
2. Sew the Fabric Strips:
a. With the right sides of the fabric together, sew a 1/4-inch seam along the long edge of each fabric strip. Leave one short end open for turning.
b. Carefully trim the corners of the fabric strips.
c. Turn the fabric strips right side out. You can use a point turner or other tool to help you turn the corners.
3. Press the Fabric Strips:
Press the fabric strips flat, making sure to press the seams open. This will help to create a crisp and professional look.
4. Create the Bows:
a. To create a bow, take one end of the fabric strip and fold it over about 1/2-inch. Press it flat.
b. Now, fold the other end of the fabric strip over to meet the first fold, forming a loop. Press it flat.
c. Fold the fabric strip in the middle, bringing both folded edges together.
d. Pin the folded fabric strip in place, securing the folds.
5. Attach to the Pews:
You can attach the pew bows to the pews using safety pins, zip ties, or floral wire. Safety pins are a quick and easy option, while zip ties and floral wire provide a more secure hold.
a. If using safety pins, insert the safety pins through the center of the bow and pin it to the pew.
b. If using zip ties, wrap them around the pew back several times and insert the ends through the center of the bow. Tighten and trim any excess zip tie.
c. If using floral wire, twist it around the pew back several times and secure the ends by twisting them together. Tuck the ends into the center of the bow.
6. Finish the Look:
Once you've attached all the pew bows, step back and assess the overall look. Adjust any bows if necessary to create a cohesive and elegant display.
Remember, DIY wedding décor can be a rewarding experience, so take your time and enjoy the process of making your own pew bows.
