Lace Pillow Ideas

Make a decorating statement with lace pillows. Cover pillows completely with lace or add lace trim or an embellished area to match the decor and mood of your home. The pillows that adorn your bed, sofa or bench can reflect your taste and highlight the room's ambiance. Buy lace trim or flat lace sold by the yard to make or embellish the pillows in your home.
  1. Lace-Trimmed Pillow

    • Make your own decorative pillows for any area of the house. Fold a piece of fabric in half. Center a pillow form on the folded fabric to allow for a 2-inch edging on all four sides. Cut the fabric on all four sides. Pin the seam edge of lace trim around the edges of one of the cut fabric pieces on the side that will show when the pillow is finished. Baste the lace trim onto the fabric, allowing a little extra trim at each corner. Remove the pins and place the second layer of fabric over the lace-trimmed first piece. Ensure that the side you intend to show is facing inside. Pin, then sew the second piece of fabric to the first, stitching just along the seam edge of the lace. Leave an opening for stuffing in the center of the last side that is sewn. Turn the pillow cover right-side-out. Stuff the pillow form inside the cover. Overhand stitch the open area to close it up. Pull the lace so that it stands out evenly all around the four sides of the pillow.

    Embellished Pillow

    • Cut a piece of lace large enough to cover the top of a pillow. Velvet and lace pillows work well for an elegant look, while calico printed fabrics work well for a more country look. Turn the edges of the lace a fraction of an inch. Pin the lace into place to fit over the top of the pillow, ending at the side seams or about halfway down the sides of the pillow if there are no seams. Stitch the lace edges onto the pillow, then remove the pins. Consider cutting a piece of lace in a heart, circle or flower shape to sew onto the center of a pillow top. Stitch with or without folding a hem along the seam of the lace.

    Recycle a Pillow

    • Cover an old pillow completely with eyelet lace fabric. Cover the underneath side first, stitching the lace onto the pillow at the side seams. Then, cover the top side and stitch the edges onto the side seams as well. Consider stitching eyelet lacing along the side seams to turn the entire pillow into an eyelet-lace decoration.

    Changeable Lace Pillows

    • Cut a strip of hemmed lace or eyelet lace to fit around an entire pillow. Stitch the ends together to form a loop. Push the lace loop onto the center, or just off-center, of a pillow.
Try two or more same or different sized widths of lace loops on a pillow. Make lace loops in different colors or types of lace to change the look of the pillow.
