Write down the desired length, width and height measurements of your new table top.
Purchase the wood, table legs, straight top plates and screws at your local hardware store.
Sand your table top to ensure a smooth surface. You do not want rough areas to snag your fabric.
Use your yardstick and black paint pen to trace a straight line along one entire length and width of your table. Then, use the yardstick as a guide to label your lines with distance measurements on the very edge of your table. Allow the paint to dry.
Cover your table surface with a layer of polyurethane paint. This will protect your yardstick paint measurements as well as make the surface very smooth. Allow the polyurethane paint to dry overnight.
Place your table top face down on the ground. Measure 3 inches in from each corner, and securely fasten the leg to the underside of your table top by using one straight top plate and four screws for each leg.
Turn your table right side up. If it is not steady, check that each straight top plate is firmly screwed to the table.
