Select the type of legs for the table. Pick a Queen Anne, ball and claw for a rounded graceful leg in a room of rounded shapes, such as a camelback sofa. Choose a more substantial and thicker turned leg, such as a fluted, colonial or twisted rope for a more traditional room with square furniture. Use bun feet for a low, children's table.
Unscrew the legs off the bottom of the footboard. Remove the top posts, if any. Eliminate the legs and posts with a saw if there are no screws.
Design the table shape. Cut the footboard in half for two side tables. Make a half-moon table from a camelback footboard by sawing two straight lines from the end of the camelback. Form a triangle table for a corner. Sand all areas to remove wood chips after using a saw and wipe the area free of dust.
Place the footboard down with the bottom side facing up. Drill holes 1 inch from each corner. Screw the legs into the table. Turn table upright.
Paint the table and legs to match your room décor.
