How to Make a Table From a Footboard

Footboards can transition into tables with a few alterations and an afternoon of your time. The next time you are tempted to throw out an old bed frame, look at it with new eyes and repurpose it into a table. The table can be low to the ground for the children to play their games on, mid-length for use as a coffee table or make it higher and place it behind the couch as a sofa table.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the type of legs for the table. Pick a Queen Anne, ball and claw for a rounded graceful leg in a room of rounded shapes, such as a camelback sofa. Choose a more substantial and thicker turned leg, such as a fluted, colonial or twisted rope for a more traditional room with square furniture. Use bun feet for a low, children's table.

    • 2

Unscrew the legs off the bottom of the footboard. Remove the top posts, if any. Eliminate the legs and posts with a saw if there are no screws.

    • 3

Design the table shape. Cut the footboard in half for two side tables. Make a half-moon table from a camelback footboard by sawing two straight lines from the end of the camelback. Form a triangle table for a corner. Sand all areas to remove wood chips after using a saw and wipe the area free of dust.

Place the footboard down with the bottom side facing up. Drill holes 1 inch from each corner. Screw the legs into the table. Turn table upright.

Paint the table and legs to match your room décor.
