Instructions

    • 1

Select a tree stump that is about 3 feet high. The stump should sit level when placed upright. Bring the stump inside and allow it to dry out for one month. This will make the stump lighter and easier to manage. The bark on the stump should loosen after it has dried out, making the next steps much easier.

    • 2

Take the stump outside to peel the bark off. Peel any loose bark of with your fingers. To remove harder pieces of bark, place a chisel above the bark. Chip the piece of bark off using a hammer on the chisel. Repeat this until all of the bark is removed.

    • 3

Rub medium-grit sandpaper all over the stump. Continue rubbing until the hairs that are left from the bark disappear. Use a finer grit sandpaper to rub around the edges of the stump, making it smooth to the touch.

    • 4

Lightly wet a dusting cloth. Rub the entire stump with the damp cloth. This will remove any of the sawdust that is left on the stump. Repeat this process to remove all the dust.

    • 5

Apply an even coat of wood stain to the entire stump using a paint brush. Allow the stain to dry before moving on to the next step.

    • 6

Flip the stump over so the bottom is on top. Draw four dots evenly spaced around the circumference of the bottom of the stump. Drill a hole with a power drill at each marked location.

    • 7

Screw each of the screws in the legs into the holes in the bottom of the stump. Turn the table to an upright position and place it in a desired location.
