Smooth the surface of the wooden table using a sanding block with 220-grit sandpaper attached. Remove any signs of scratches or gouges from the surface using a circular motion with the sanding block to avoid creating grooves in the surface along scratched areas.
Wipe the residue from the table created from sanding with a tack cloth.
Brush a layer of wood stain onto the table with a foam applicator, working in rows across the table surface along with the wood grain. Allow the stain to sit in place on the tabletop for about 15 minutes to penetrate into the wood.
Remove any excess stain on the tabletop by wiping it off with a clean dry cloth.
Create your laminate layer from a two-part clear epoxy. Mix the epoxy in a small bucket with a wooden paint stirrer, adding the hardener in with the resin using the manufacturer suggested mixing ratio. Scrape along the bottom and sides of the bucket with the stirrer to make certain you get a thorough mix using all of the two combined components.
Brush the epoxy over the wooden tabletop using a paintbrush, applying the mix in smooth, overlapping rows in a thin coat to seal the wood pores. Allow the coating four hours drying time and then apply a second coat to the tabletop.
Make the second layer a thicker coat of epoxy, spreading it to a depth of about 1/8-inch with the brush. Allow the coat to dry for four hours and then apply two more 1/8-inch thick coats, drying the third for four more hours, and the fourth and final coat for 72 hours to completely cure the resin material.
