How to Build a Side Table/Night Stand

Building a side table or night stand is a fun and rewarding DIY project. This step by step guide will walk you through the process of creating your own wooden side table or night stand:

Tools and Materials Needed

- Wood (e.g., pine, oak, or plywood)

- Saw (circular saw or miter saw)

- Drill

- Wood screws

- Sandpaper

- Stain (optional)

- Varnish or polyurethane (optional)

- Measuring tape

- Safety goggles

- Wood glue (optional)

Step 1: Cut the Wood

1. Cut the following pieces of wood:

- 4 pieces for the legs (25 inches or desired height)

- 4 pieces for the top and bottom frames (16 inches or desired length)

- 2 pieces for the front and back supports (12 inches or desired length)

Step 2: Assemble the Frame

1. Place two of the top frame pieces on a flat surface, parallel to each other.

2. Attach the front and back support pieces to the top frame pieces using wood glue and wood screws.

3. Repeat step 2 with the remaining two top frame pieces and front and back support pieces to complete the second side of the frame.

Step 3: Attach the Legs

1. Position one of the leg pieces between the top frame pieces, at a corner of the frame.

2. Drill a pilot hole through the leg and into the top frame and attach it using wood glue and wood screws.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to attach the remaining legs.

Step 4: Assemble the Bottom Shelf

1. Place the bottom frame pieces inside the base of the table, parallel to the top frame pieces.

2. Attach them to the legs using wood glue and wood screws. Ensure that the bottom frame is centered and square.

Step 5: Sand and Finish the Table

1. Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges and imperfections.

2. If desired, apply stain or varnish to the table to enhance the appearance and protect the wood.

Step 6: Enjoy your Side Table/Night Stand

Your side table or night stand is now complete and ready to be used, enjoyed and admired.
