How to Baste a Turkey

What You Need

* Turkey baster

* Basting liquid of your choice (such as melted butter, olive oil, or gravy)

* Turkey

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius).

2. While the oven is heating, prepare your basting liquid. You can use melted butter, olive oil, or gravy. If you're using a dry rub, you can also use a mixture of water and the rub.

3. Remove the turkey from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.

4. Once the turkey is ready, place it on a roasting rack in a shallow roasting pan.

5. Baste the turkey with your chosen liquid. Be sure to get under the skin and in between the wings and legs.

6. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes per pound.

7. Baste the turkey every 30 minutes or so to keep it moist.

8. When the turkey is done, it should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).

9. Let the turkey rest for about 15 minutes before carving and serving.

Tips

* If you're using a dry rub, be sure to brush the turkey with oil or melted butter before roasting. This will help the rub to adhere to the skin.

* You can also add some aromatics to your basting liquid, such as garlic, onion, or herbs.

* If you're using a gravy-based basting liquid, be sure to skim the fat off the gravy before basting the turkey.

* Basting the turkey regularly is an important step in the process, so make sure to set a timer so you don't forget.

* Basting the turkey will ensure it cooks evenly and the skin will be crispy and golden brown.
