How to Measure an Entertainment Center for a TV

Entertainment centers often allow the owner to hide the cables and wires that connect any extra device like a Blu-ray player or video game system to the television. The fit will only work if the entertainment center is measured in advance to see if there's enough room for the set and the wires. This involves measuring all the dimensions of the television and comparing them to the dimensions of the entertainment center.

Use a standard tape measure to measure the available depth of the entertainment center. Match that number with the depth of the case of the television set. The depth of the entertainment center should be a larger number than the depth of the TV. Add 1 or 2 inches to the number to account for cables that will be plugged into the back of the TV.

    • 2

Measure the available height of the entertainment center. Add 1 or 2 inches to the final measurement to account for the plastic border on the television set.

    • 3

Measure the available length of the entertainment center. Add 1 or 2 inches to the measurement to include room to reach the volume and menu controls on the side of the TV.
