Before laying a single article inside the drawer, consider putting in a drawer liner. The liner both protects the wood and dresses up the inside of each drawer. One option is self-adhesive drawer-liner paper. This paper is made from all sorts of materials, including some that are scented. Other liners include satin or silk, cut in sizes and lengths especially for drawers. Be sure to put your baby's soft, sensitive skin at the top of the list when purchasing a liner.
After your liners are set inside each drawer, it is time to start filling them. The crux of clothing attire for a baby lies in the onesie, worn underneath almost every outfit. These come in a variety of colors and styles. In one of the drawers, be sure to include lots of onesies, as accidents--from both ends--will happen on a daily basis. Keeping a drawer full of clean onesies will save time and frustration for a busy mom or dad.
Organize the drawer into the everyday kind along with other onesies that are slightly more ornate or dressy for outings to the park or to visits with friends and family.
We all have a hard enough time keeping up with our own socks and trying to keep teenie, tiny pairs all in one place can be a very large challenge. Give yourself a head start by reserving one drawer for socks. Roll each pair of socks together so all it requires is a quick grab for a tiny ball and you have a pair in hand and ready to go.
If you start losing socks or have a sock here and there with no mate, donate it, start a bag of lost socks or throw it away but do not put it inside the matched socks drawer. This will keep you from grabbing sock after sock with no match.
Since socks don't take up too much room, you might also combine the socks with pajamas and sleepware. Place socks on one side and pajamas on the other to keep them separate. This way, an afternoon nap in her favorite jammies along with a pair of warm, fuzzy socks is only one drawer away.
Many outfits for a baby come as a package, complete with a top and bottom. They are also small and compact, especially when folded. Reserve one or two drawers to place a shirt and matching pair or pants or skirt together instead of having a separate drawer for tops and also for bottoms. This will allow you to quickly grab an outfit or two instead of having to search through a drawer for a matching skirt or pair of pants for a cute top.
The best way to place the clothes in the drawer is to place the pants or skirt under the top, as you will recognize an outfit faster by seeing the shirt, as they tend to have more unique attributes.
