How to Make a Faux Fur Hat for Kids

### Materials

* Faux fur fabric (1/2 yard)

* Lining fabric (1/2 yard)

* Batting (1/4 yard)

* Thread

* Sewing machine

* Scissors

* Pins

* Measuring tape

* Rotary cutter (optional)

* Cutting mat (optional)

Instructions

1. Cut out the following pieces of fabric:

* 2 rectangles of faux fur fabric, each measuring 12" x 20"

* 2 rectangles of lining fabric, each measuring 12" x 20"

* 1 rectangle of batting, measuring 12" x 20"

2. Sew the two pieces of faux fur fabric together along the long edge, using a 1/2" seam allowance. Repeat with the two pieces of lining fabric.

3. With right sides together, sew the faux fur fabric to the lining fabric, along the long edge. Leave a 4" opening in the center for turning.

4. Trim the seam allowances and clip the corners. Turn the hat right side out and press flat.

5. Top stitch around the entire hat, close to the edge.

6. Fold the raw edge of the opening inward 1/2" and press. Stitch closed.

7. Cut two strips of faux fur fabric, each measuring 2" x 12". Fold each strip in half lengthwise and sew the long edge closed.

8. Stitch the earflaps to the hat, on either side of the crown.

9. Add any desired embellishments, such as beads, sequins, or pom-poms.

Tips

* Choose a faux fur fabric that is soft and has a long pile.

* If you don't have a sewing machine, you can sew the hat by hand using a whip stitch.

* Be sure to press the seams well after each step.

* You can add a layer of interfacing to the hat for extra warmth and structure.

* This hat can be made in any size. Simply adjust the measurements of the fabric pieces accordingly.
