How to Stop Furniture From Sliding on Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors add a rich, vibrant look to any home. Scratches and dents from sliding furniture scar a hardwood floor, making it look old and worn. Over time the scratches accumulate dirt that is hard to remove, leaving dark spidery lines in the wood. Certain products and practices keep furniture from sliding across hardwood floors creating the unsightly marks.

Instructions

    • 1

Place small area rugs under end tables. Place larger pieces of furniture, such as sofas and dining room tables on top of large area rugs.

    • 2

Turn a sofa or a chair with wheels on its side. Measure the circumference of the sofa or chair wheels. Cut rubber shelf lining paper to the same measurement. Wipe the wheels clean with a rag. Apply the rubber circles to the wheels, and press down firmly to secure the bond. Place a rubber mat under chairs with wheels such as computer chairs.

Place round furniture coasters under sofas or other furniture with wheels. Place the coasters under each wheel to keep the furniture from moving on the hardwood floors.
