How to Fix a Hole in a Microfiber Couch

Microfiber is a popular material for upholstering furniture where comfort is key. The soft fabric is also relatively durable, but it is not impenetrable to tears and holes. If an accident, such as a cigarette burn, has lead to a hole in your microfiber couch, it can be fixed with relative ease using the right materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a small amount of fray check to the area surrounding the hole. This will prevent the tear from spreading and will make it easier to repair.

    • 2

Choose a needle appropriate for the area of the couch where the hole is placed. If the hole is on a flat portion of the couch, a regular needle will work. If the hole is on curved section of the couch, however, such as an arm, use a curved needle instead. These needles can be purchased at any fabric store.

    • 3

Insert a strong thread specifically for use in upholstery through the needle. Make a knot at the end of the thread to prevent it from becoming loose from the needle.

    • 4

Repair the hole using a simple stitch. Insert the needle into the hole and bring it up toward you through the fabric on one side of the hole. Push the needle back through the fabric on the opposite side of the hole and pull until the fabric is closed but not taut. Continue in this manner, going side to side with the needle, until the fabric is closed back over the hole.

    • 5

Knot the end of the thread and snip off the loose ends.
